Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA 515 AM EDT Sat Sep 2 2017 .SYNOPSIS... Temperatures will remain cool with rain likely Saturday. Rain chances taper down Sunday and dry weather is forecast for Labor Day. .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... No major changes necessary for the early morning update. Dry air sampled by the Friday evening sounding is continuing to erode the leading edge of rain associated with the mid-level deformation zone lifting north. Behind the line of showers lifting north, a pocket of drier air will then reside across northern WV and into southwest PA for much of the morning. The last vestiges of Harvey, now an upper-level low, will move over the area later today, bringing rain to most locations. This system has been slow to advance up the Ohio Valley to this point, but will begin to open up and shift east faster as it phases with the broader trough digging into the Great Lakes. This will ultimately keep rain from lingering too long over the forecast area, limiting the potential for any hydrologic concerns. In general, less than an inch of rain is expected with higher amounts focused south of I-70. Temperatures won`t move a lot today as increasing cloud cover, rain, and cooling mid-levels will keep the diurnal trend suppressed. Highs were lowered further, and should come in well below average.
